Morris Police Department D.A.R.E. Fact Sheet The Morris Police D.A.R.E. program started in 1989. Morris Police Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program is a cooperative effort between each school district located in the City of Morris and the Morris Police Department. D.A.R.E. is a life skills program that focuses on teaching young people decision-making skills and how to make the right choices. Some of the lessons include:
The Morris Police Department has certified D.A.R.E. officers to teach the classes. Each officer is trained in classroom management, teaching methodologies, public speaking and lesson preparation. Over 240 students are taught each year in the 5th grade. The program is ten weeks in length. Morris Police D.A.R.E. officers teach at the following schools:
Each student receives reinforcement items such as pencils, pens, erasers, buttons, pencil pouches, bookmarks, and rulers on a weekly basis. The Morris Police D.A.R.E. program is funded by the City of Morris and through fundraisers, sponsored by the Chicago and Northeast Illinois District Council of Carpenters and the “Bowl for D.A.R.E”. competition. |
